What is LoRaWAN Consultancy?

LoRaWAN is a low-power wide-area networking protocol that connects battery-operated IoT sensors over distances of several kilometres. It powers large-scale industrial monitoring, smart agriculture, asset tracking, cold-chain logistics and smart-city projects across the UK and Europe.

Most organisations know what they want from IoT. Reduce downtime, track assets, keep an eye on environmental conditions, cut energy costs. The hard part is translating that into a reliable, production-grade LoRaWAN network when you do not have a dedicated IoT engineering team in-house. That is exactly where we come in.

We work with you from the first feasibility conversation right through to go-live and beyond. Our team has delivered LoRaWAN projects across manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, agriculture, retail and smart buildings. Whatever your sector, we have very likely solved something similar before and we can put that experience to work for you.

Vendor-neutral advice

We recommend what is right for your project, not what earns us the best margin.

Structured delivery process

Discovery, architecture, pilot then scale. A clear process that reduces risk and gets you to value faster.

Global coverage

We deploy across EU868, US915, AU915 and AS923 frequency plans. Wherever your project is, we have the experience to make it work.

Why use LoRaWAN for IoT deployments

Network Server Design & Gateway Deployment

The LoRaWAN Network Server is the brain of your IoT network. It handles join authentication, frame de-duplication, Adaptive Data Rate and payload routing to your application layer. Getting the LNS right matters because a poorly configured network server causes reliability problems, security gaps and higher long-term costs.

We run our own production LNS infrastructure through ChirpCloud, which means we have real day-to-day operational experience with ChirpStack at scale. We can host your network on ChirpCloud, help you set up a private on-premises or cloud-hosted LNS, or connect you to TTN or TTI depending on your data sovereignty and uptime needs.

On the gateway side, our deployment capability runs through EdgePilot. We carry out RF propagation modelling, gateway placement surveys and full installation, from DIN-rail indoor units to IP67 outdoor gateways with LTE backhaul. We make sure you have solid coverage before a single sensor goes live.

LoRaWAN use cases across industries

Firmware & LoRaWAN Device Development

Off-the-shelf sensors are great for most use cases, but sometimes a project calls for a purpose-built end-node: a custom PCB, an unusual sensor integration, or firmware that has to run for years on a small battery in a harsh environment. Our embedded engineering team handles the full journey from schematic to certified, production-ready hardware.

Our firmware engineers write LoRaWAN MAC-compliant firmware in C and C++ for STM32, Nordic nRF, Microchip SAML and other popular MCU families. We handle Class A, B and C join procedures, build efficient payload encoders using Cayenne LPP or custom binary formats, and tune sleep-wake cycles to squeeze multi-year battery life out of field devices.

Not building custom hardware? We can still help. We work with clients to select and qualify commercial off-the-shelf devices, validating RF performance in your specific environment, reviewing payload decoders and confirming LoRa Alliance certification before you commit to a bulk order.

API Development & Systems Integration

Raw sensor payloads sitting in your network server are not useful on their own. The value comes when that data reaches the applications and workflows your business actually runs on. We build the integration layer that makes that happen, turning encoded binary uplinks into clean, structured data your systems can act on straight away.

We design and build decoder microservices, MQTT-to-REST bridges, webhook processors and event-driven pipelines that pull data from mixed device estates into a consistent format. From there we wire it into time-series databases like InfluxDB and TimescaleDB, relational databases, BI tools such as Grafana and Power BI, ERP and SCADA systems, CRMs, and custom dashboards.

We also expose your IoT data through well-documented REST APIs so your internal teams and third-party partners can build on top of the network without needing to understand LoRaWAN at all. Security is treated seriously throughout: OAuth 2.0 and API key authentication, rate limiting, audit logging and encrypted transit as standard.

LoRaWAN Deployments Anywhere in the World

LoRaWAN is a global standard and we work globally. We have designed and delivered networks across the United Kingdom, Europe, the United States, Australia and Asia Pacific, and we are comfortable with the regulatory and RF requirements that come with each region.

We use RF propagation modelling tools to simulate your coverage before a single gateway goes up. That saves a lot of time and money compared to guessing at placement and fixing gaps after installation. Whether you are on EU868, US915, AU915 or AS923, we know the frequency plan, the duty cycle rules and the certification requirements for your market.

For multi-site or cross-border deployments we combine private gateway infrastructure with public network roaming through TTN or Helium where it makes sense, getting you the best balance of coverage, data sovereignty and running cost. Once you are live, our managed gateway service through EdgePilot keeps a close eye on your network around the clock.

FAQ

Common Questions About Our LoRaWAN Consultancy

Straight answers about what it is like to work with us.

We start with a discovery call to get under the skin of your use case, your existing infrastructure and what you are trying to achieve. From there we put together a scoped technical proposal covering network design, device selection, integration architecture and a phased delivery plan. Some engagements are a focused week-long architecture review. Others are a multi-month end-to-end deployment. It depends on your situation and we will be straight with you about what you actually need.

A proof of concept with a handful of sensors and a hosted LNS can be live within one to two weeks. A full production deployment covering gateway installation, custom firmware, API integrations and staff training typically takes four to twelve weeks, depending on scale, geography and how complex your back-end integrations are.

Yes, absolutely. We are LNS-agnostic and have hands-on experience with ChirpStack, The Things Network, The Things Industries, Actility ThingPark and AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN. If you already have gateways, sensors or a network server in place, we will assess what you have and build on it rather than ask you to start from scratch.

Yes. We work with Class A devices for standard battery-efficient uplinks, Class B for scheduled downlink windows on actuators, and Class C for continuously listening mains-powered devices. Our firmware team handles the full LoRaWAN MAC stack and can tune join procedures, ADR settings and duty-cycle compliance for whichever class your project needs.

We are based in the UK and work globally. We have hands-on experience across the United Kingdom, Europe, the United States, Australia and Asia Pacific, covering EU868, US915, AU915 and AS923 frequency plans. For projects in other regions we work with trusted local partners to handle coverage planning, regulatory compliance and on-site installation properly.

Absolutely, and it is one of the first things we tackle together. Device selection has a huge impact on the success of any LoRaWAN project. We work with sensors across temperature, humidity, GPS tracking, vibration, water leak detection, air quality, energy metering and more. We will point you to the right devices for your environment, duty cycle and budget, and we can supply them directly through Trackpac.
