A magnetic reed switch sensor is fitted to the frame, with a small magnet on the door or window itself. Moving the magnet away from the sensor changes its state, and that change is reported over LoRaWAN - no wiring back to a control panel required. Because the sensor only transmits on a state change rather than polling continuously, battery life is measured in years rather than months.

Because every event is logged with a timestamp on the Trackpac dashboard, door and window sensors also work well as a lightweight audit trail - useful evidence of when a space was accessed, without the storage and privacy overhead of video.
